Western Carolina University owns and maintains approximately 20,000 feet of wastewater lines and 90 manholes for the purpose of wastewater collection. The lines and manholes are all located within the WCU campus.
The wastewater collection lines empty into sewer lines owned and maintained by Tuckaseigee Water and Sewer Authority.
During the 2007 calendar year the wastewater collection system performed satisfactorily resulting in no wastewater reaching surface waters.
During the 2007 calendar year:
The entire collection system was visually inspected.
A formal program of inspection and cleaning are in place.
Improvements were made on the line from Forsyth to Coulter with new manholes installed.
Compliance Enviro Systems cleaned and made camera pictures of 3,040 feet of sewer line.
All boiler blow down lines were piped into sewer at steam plant.
Repaired collapsed sewer line between Belk and Labor Force buildings.
Quarterly cleaning of cafeteria grease traps.
40% or approximately 9,765 feet of collection pipe was cleaned and inspected and found it to be in satisfactory condition.
Matter& Craig eng. conducted a study to replace 645 feet of sewer lines and/or replace/ repair 23 manholes with 8 new installations to fix problem areas and remove a sewer line from under buildings.
New lines and manholes were installed for the new student rec. center.
